I apologize that I haven’t posted in almost a week! I was pretty exhausted after I spent a week constructing the three part tutorial on making a basic wed design layout from scratch.
Anyway, in my time off, I got pretty bored with my camera. So, over the next week or so I’ll be releasing some textures I took. I’ll be uploading everything to my Flickr account so you can download all of the textures at whatever resolution you wish. Make sure when you visit a photo’s flickr page, you click the button that says “all sizes” in order to download them at higher resolutions. Also, I’m releasing everything under the creative commons license! 🙂
It got really cold here recently up here in Alaska and my heater was broken. I was stuck sitting in front of my fireplace with my dogs and a little TV! I also decided to dust off the old Nikon and take a bunch of fire textures. This is the first set of probably four fire sets. I call this first one, Light Satin Flames.
In this post, I decided to find you a variety of BRICK, friends! So here’s what I’ve done. I went out and found as much of a variety of brick textures as I could. There are 40 awesome brick textures here in total, but all different from each other. I tried, anyway, but brick textures can only be so different from each other.
I’ve separated these 40 free brick textures into two categories. There are 20 “multi-brick textures” and 20 “single-brick textures.”
In this section you’ll find 20 textures that show a variety of ways bricks are layed together. You get the entire perspective of the brick wall or ground, or whatever.
Now, get all up in the brick’s business. In this section, you’ll find 20 single-brick textures.
If you’ve been living under a design rock and you’re not sure what bokeh even means, here you go: “In photography, bokeh is the blur, or the esthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image.” Straight from Wikipedia! Basically, as far as Internet design trends go, in layman’s terms, blurry background lights are in, baby!
You can download these bokeh textures directly from Caleb’s blog post in the form of a zip package, or you can browse them individually here and pick which ones you want to use for your projects. I personally don’t like downloading zip packages of textures and other stock footage because my computer gets so damn cluttered sometimes. So, browse away. Simply click an image you want to download and you’ll be linked to an enlarged version of it. And thanks, Caleb!
The other day I was searching for some paper textures for another Photoshop tutorial I wanted to do and I was having some problems. It really isn’t hard to find paper textures; they’re all over deviantART, Flickr, and everyone and their mothers’ blogs. With a billion choices, ranging from blog posts to Flickr images to zip files… I got kind of annoyed with all the different sources and methods of downloading paper textures.
So, I decided to do a blog post with my favorite paper textures. I’ve gone ahead and limited my selection. You won’t find “200+ premium textures” here. I’ve taken five textures from five categories I decided were fitting for paper textures: 5 crinkled paper textures, 5 worn paper textures, 5 torn paper textures, 5 burnt paper textures, and 5 grunge-stained paper textures.
The best part is all of these images link to single images out there on the net that are free for you to use. That means no random deviantART portfolios, secondary blog sources, or nasty zip files. We’ve just got straight links to straight-up image files. So bookmark this blog post and come back when you want a quick paper texture to play with. 🙂

Worn & Faded Paper Textures
Torn & Ripped Paper Textures

Grunge-Stained Paper Textures
Play around with some of these abstract light Photoshop brushes. Apply them at different opacities and colors. Use different layer blend modes to layer them together and on top of other objects and gradients. You’ll be surprised what you can come up with!
We have another post on how to install and manage your Photoshop Brushes. (coming soon!)
